About the GeoPortal
Communications Authority of Kenya — National Broadband GeoPortal. Supporting the ITU Africa Broadband Maps initiative.
Purpose
The GeoPortal brings broadband coverage, infrastructure, demand and access-gap information into one evidence base. It is designed to serve four audiences at once: the public, who need plain-language answers about service where they live; government stakeholders, who need consistent indicators for planning; CA analysts, who need to validate and compare submissions; and decision-makers, who need dated, sourced evidence.
Methodology notes
Every figure in this prototype comes from a deterministic synthetic generator. Coverage figures are modelled, not measured. Boundaries are a coarse mock grid clipped to a generalised national outline; they are not administrative boundaries. Speed bands are illustrative placeholders until CA approves reporting thresholds. Classification model
Every layer, dataset and output carries a classification, permitted audience, data owner, reporting period, publication status, usage conditions, data-quality status and lineage reference.

Accessibility
The interface targets WCAG 2.1 AA expectations: a skip link, keyboard operation for the map and all controls, visible focus states, text labels alongside every status colour, alternative table views for every chart, and layouts that remain readable at 200% zoom. Filter panels collapse into drawers on small screens.
